Pleated Edge Scarf

Crocheted in two simple pieces from the pleats up, and joined as you go at the back seam, this scarf has wonderful texture but couldn’t be simpler to make! The pleats are are worked in simle double crochet but with a simple fold and working through multiple thicknesses, they magically appear in one row! This is a super quick project that requires only one ball of yarn. It is a great weekend project for yourself and makes wonderful gifts.

Zen Garden Mobius CROCHET

Have you ever seen a Japanese zen rock garden? The ridged texture of hte blocks in this project remind me of a design I would rake into the sand in one of those soothing, miniature gardens. The ridged blocks are worked in one piece, each building off the last block made. Each square is picked up from the side of the last square, and they are completely reversible. A mobius benefits greatly from a reversible fabric. This simple accessory is crocheted in one piece, seamed with a couple rows of same sc-tbl. The edging is worked in one simple row, along perimeter, reminding me of the rocks you could arrange around your raked design in the zen garden. Interestingly, you would think there are two rounds of edging: top and bottom. However, the twist is in the mobius twist!

One of the great beauties of a mobius is that it can be worn in a variety of ways. Depending on how much of the shoulders you cover, it can range from a capelet to a cowl.

I researched Japenese Zen Rock Gardens and came up with some very interesting information. The garden is rich with symbolism and history.

Also known as karesansui, or simply zen gardens, the purpose of these japanese rock gardens is to provide a place of zen, and to calm the mind. Well, that sure reminds me of the reason we crochet in the first place!

Traditionally a zen garden's container is facing pefectly north and south. Twisting our rock garden into a mobius really throughs this one for a loop!

The most famous Karesansui is one created by artist Sōami at Ryoan-ji, in the northwest of Kyoto, Japan. It is believed to be over 500 years old It is 30 meters by 10 meters. The Zen Garden Mobius is a classic design that you can wear for years to come!

The edging around the perimeter of the mobius represents the rocks in a zen garden. In the spirit of Karesansui, it also represents the islands of Japan and the ridged blocks (raked gravel/sand) represent the oceans.

Another symbolism theory is that the rocks are symbolic of a mother tiger and her cubs, swimming toward a dragon. Maybe this mobius would make a great mother-to-be gift?

Knit Lace Scarf and Hat with Flower, #P06117 and P06127

Romantic, delicate and classic. This pattern comes with instructions for a hat, reversible scarf and six-petal flower. The stitch pattern is a 16 row repeat of a simple knit/purl combination. Little Ruffled Handbag, Pattern - #P06112

The Little Ruffled Handbags are quick and relatively easy projects. The construction is unique and it keeps the project interesting. And, each has a 'corckscrew' handle, which makes the strap less lightly to stretch out of shape.

Crochet Version

Rugged Ribbed Hat

One of the fasted projects I've ever made: the Rugged Ribbed Hat is a beginner project. The sample shown is worked in Plymouth Yarn's Yukon Print (35% mohair, 35% wool, 30% acrylic). One 100gm ball has 59 yards and this hat was made from only one ball using US15 (10mm) knitting needles.

To make it a very easy project, I wrote the instructions in rows (not rounds), so sewing up a seam is required. If you can work with dpns (double pointed needles) or circulars, this pattern would be very easy to convert to rounds.

Broomstick Lace Scarf or Wrap

Whether you can knit or crochet, this is a great beginner technique for creating a lacy fabric with lots of gorgeous drape. You only need to know how to make a chain stitch and a single crochet stitch in crochet - or learn these really simple stitches for the technique.

For the scarf, you will need 110 yards of bulky yarn (sample shown in Joseph Galler's Flore II), K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook and a US50 (25mm) knitting needle. Finished size: 7" x 53"

For the wrap, you will need 850 yards of dk weight yarn (sample shown in Joseph Galler's Pashmina II), G/6 (4mm) crochet hook, US17 (12.75 mm) knitting needle. Finished size: 20" x 62"

ALOHA ORCHID Crochet Scarf & Flower Pattern

I adore wearing this flower decorated lace scarf. It is bubbly and cheerful and the mood definitely rubs off on me when I wear it! The placement of the flower reminds me of something a greeter would wear when you descent the airplane onto a beautiful Hawaiian island. The scarf utilizes a fun alternative to a simple shell stitch pattern and the ends are joined to make the scarf a tube. The flower is crocheted separately and sewn onto the scarf at the end. Last Minute Crochet Scarves Pattern, P07136

At the last minute, my son asked me to make scarves for his Kindergarten teachers. What is a crocheter to do? You value mommy’s crochet so much that you want me to make scarves for your teachers?
