Week 2: Soldier Love Crochet Capelet CAL -- first row of Seamless Motifs

I hope you have downloaded your pattern, read it over, ordered your yarn, wound it into balls, and have your supplies handy! This week, I want to teach you how to get started with the pattern and begin making the seamlessly joined crochet motifs.

I made a YouTube Tutorial Video to show you how to make the first and second motifs in the first row of motifs. You will need to repeat the second motif until you have reached the desired number of motifs for the width of your project. Depending on the size of the capelet, or if you decide to make the scarf a tad wider or narrower, please adjust the number of motifs in this row. The number of motifs in the first row determines the width of your fabric.

Note: for the yoke of the capelet, this is actually the length of the yoke because this fabric will be turned sideways for the capelet. For the scarf, this is the width and you will be repeating rows of motifs to create the length.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or leave a message below!

If you are just joining us now, no problem! The beauty of a blog-driven CAL is that you can start AT ANY TIME! The CAL will remain on my blog indefinitely so you can come back and join us whenever you want :)

And if you are just starting today, here is a reminder about the details of where to get your supplies:

For every pattern sold, I will be donating $1.00 to the Wounded Warrior Project! The Solider Love Capelet Crochet Pattern is $3.99 and available as a PDF pattern that you can download immediately, either on my website, Ravelry or Craftsy Pattern Shops. The pattern includes 2 patterns actually. You can either use the stitch pattern of the yoke of the capelet to make a scarf, or make one of the two sizes of the capelet. It is a rather unstructered garment, but the small/medium is " and the large/extra large is ". Either way, the project takes only 2 skeins of Honor by Lorna's Laces, an H/8 (5mm) crochet hook, and five 1" buttons. My local yarn shop, A Good Yarn Sarasota, is stocked and ready to ship so you can always order there, or there is also a link to Lorna's Laces Shop Locator. You can purchase your yarn at A Good Yarn Sarasota, or anywhere Lorna's Laces Honor is sold.

Next week, I will show you how to do the return on the first row of motifs and made the middle row, which is the row you will repeat for your desired length of motifs.

At the bottom of this blog post is a link "Share This". Please choose to share on Facebook or Twitter. I will be watching this content all month and randomly choose a winner to receive a HUGE prize at the end of the CAL. Please share this week's or all the CAL posts!! Thank you! xoxo, Kristin

Hi Kirstin - Got some yarn and got started. I'm using Cascade Venizian (70 merino and 30 silk). Great yarn - excellent drape. I'm using a golden rust color. Your video, visual and instructions all worked well together. I think I'm on my way. I will probably do a scarf. Thanks for your help.
