Unexpected Afghans: Sunken Treasures Crochet by Kristin Omdahl

Robyn Chachula's newest book, "Unexpected Afghans" is truly a masterpiece. One gorgeous afghan design after the other grace the pages of this book. I'm showing you my contribution to the collection, Sunken Treasures Crochet Afghan, but if you want to see more from the book, check out all the designers blogging about it this wekeend. Start with Robyn's blog, Crochet By Faye, to get the complete itinerary and map to many more opportunities to win!

Sunken Treasures Crochet Afghan by Kristin Omdahl is a motif based pattern with simple medallions that join as you go. I was inspired by a pirate's treasure chest and made an edging to replicate crashing waves along the bow of a pirate ship (in my mind's eye it had the beautiful mermaid bust attached at the bow), too.

If you love my Seamless Crochet techniques, I am happy to annouce that this project could be easily converted into a seamless project. If you would like to know more, let me know and I'll make a YouTube tutorial about how to convert it into a seamless project :)

Kathy P in Springfield GA. My crochet plans for the summer will be starting on my Christmas list and working on a little venture dabbling in free form crochet on a garment for my daughter. We'll see how that goes! :o)

Crochet plans are in full swing. Four of the grandchildren are here from Colorado and they are all learning to crochet. Their ages are 7, 9, 10, 12 and all doing very well! What fun! After they leave, plans are to get back to making my third "Sprout Chains Shawlette!"
I'm working on a cashmere shawl for a wedding. I need to make 2 bathing suit cover ups. Have a cropped top WIP for me. After that, I have so much I want to do, I'll have to figure out where to start. Just got some new yarn in, so I'm really excited about using it. Also, I've been trying to learn as much as I can about the business end of crochet, as that is my ultimate goal - well, that and crocheting as much as possible:)
Hi Kristin - My crochet plans for the summer are to finish some WIPs that have been hanging around for way too long. I'd also like to get started on Christmas gifts. Thanks!
Kacy S. from rural Southeast Texas. This summer I'll be continuing a friendship/swap afghan that I started last year. I'm also begining to make Christmas plan and deciding what crochet lovlies to make my family this year. I know I want to make a special shawl for my mom, but I haven't settled on an exact pattern yet. My mother-in-law will get dishcloths--boring, but it's what she requested.

My plans are HUGE for this summer: 4 mothers-to-be at work (all due around the end of September), a very pretty shawl for my mother, some of those slouchy beanies for my sister.....and three afghans. One is a ripple pattern to go in my living room (in a size G hook...what was I thinking?!), another is one I'm finishing up to go on my son's bed, and the third. The third was requested by my husband: a crocheted blanket to serve as a comforter/quilt to go on our bed. The pattern is the Lancaster Quilt in Crochet Today! Nov/Dec 2011. It's a beautiful pattern, and something different nearly every row. However, to make a queen-sized blanket out of it, I have to make 9 individual squares and then join them. I have 5 done so far, and I'm toying with the idea of lining it to prevent that sagging/pulling/stretching issue. Off to get a few rows in before the day begins!

Love this beautiful blanket. Looks like it's full of love with little x's and o's. =) And your inspiration is fabulous. Who doesn't love mermaids?! =)

This summer I've made a huge list of things I can't possibly finish in two years! My sister recently had a baby boy...so top on the list is baby.

My summer plans are full of crochet. I have a new grandchild due in December and your Sunken Treasure pattern would be ideal as a gift. I'm also busy with gifts for friends' grandchildren. Hopefully I'll get started on Christmas gifts before I have to go back to school. This week I'm getting lots of crocheting done as it is TOO hot to go out. I'd love to have a copy of Unexpected Afghans!

I am enjoying the blog jumping and looking at all the beautiful designs in Robyns new book... It has given me the opportunity to see larger pictures of the afghans as well as other items designed by the contributors...
I don't really have plans for summer.... I have been suffering from depression and haven't picked up a hook or needles since Jan 2011. Too long. I am staying connected hoping that one day soon I will be inspired again. I want to learn Tunisian Crochet. I learned the afghan stitch years ago and like using it. Looking forward to learning more....

I am working on my first sweater for myself! Hopefully I will get it done this summer so that I can wear it for the fall. I usually make things for others, which is slowing down my progress on my own sweater, but I love to do it! Thanks for the chance to win, I can't wait to see this book.

It would be great if you could do the tutorial on how to convert your pattern into a seamless one!!!
