August Whirlwind of Knit Crochet & More Excitement Part 3 of 3

They say, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." Well, I guess I've got a big mouth, because I cant' keep it shut! LOL Vegas was a blast! Funny, but I didn't think I liked Vegas either, but found lots of great reasons to love it on this trip.

The trip began VERY EARLY leaving for the airport well before dawn but arriving around noon (thanks to the 3 hour time difference). I arrived to the Venetian Hotel and texted Jennifer E. from Eucalan to meet up and begin setting up our booth at CurveNV. I waited, and waited, and she text back that she was in the lobby but couldn't see me. I guess it would have helped if I went to the CORRECT HOTEL! LOL It turns out we were staying at the Palazzo Hotel (which in my defense is a sister property to the Venetian). Oh well, we got a great laugh out of it, and for the trillionth time in my life I was referred to as a true blond. :) Here is a picture of the lovely lobby in the Venetian when I THOUGHT it was my hotel. Notice the nice little live music at the fountain. Lovely :)

So we finally found each other and went to the Palazzo to drop off my bags. Went down to the convention center to set up our Eucalan booth for CurveNV Lingerie/Swimwear trade show. But along the way, we stopped at the Grand Canal Shoppes for lunch. This place is so cool. It's indoors, but the ceiling is very high and painted like the sky. So whether you are there day or night, it feels like you are outdoors. How cool is that? Lunch consisted of an amazing caprese salad with micro basil. I assume it's a fancy concoction, but looked like baby sprouts of basil to me. DELICIOUS.

We set up the booth - it was a bigger space that in NY and we were able to change up the configuration. It looked fabulous and we left. We walked around for a while and I crashed early! It was a long day of travel and I was super tired.

The show opened the next day and I met some fantastic people from all over the world! Wrapture was very well received and I was thrilled with all the positive feedback! I drooled over the lingerie in the adjacent booth and would have taken the whole collection if I could. It was some of the most exquisite lace lingerie I have ever laid my eyes on. The company is called Mary Green. The fashion show for CurveNV was at the Crazy Horse Saloon (burlesque style dance show). Wow. It was AMAZING. The dancers were so talented and muscular! They made the already gorgeous lingerie and swimwear ROCK! No pictures allowed in there, so sorry but you'll just have to take my word for it!

I designed a new crochet bracelet while I was in the booth. Posted pictures of me working on the bracelet in my social media channels to ask others to guess what I was making. I got a couple correct answers, too! Anyway, it's a tunisian crochet wire bracelet and you can download the instant pattern for only $0.99 HERE: Tunisian Crochet Wire Bracelet Pattern and watch the FREE youtube tutorial video on it here:

I taught Jennifer how to crochet in Vegas, too! She learned how to chain, single crochet and double crochet! I'll have to test her skills when we see each other again :) Our next Curve shows will be in February (NY and Vegas again), but I'll probably be seeing her at fiber shows before then.

Leave a comment below to win one of MANY free prizes, including patterns, books, YARN and samples of Wrapture. Tell me what techniques you learned this month, or would like to learn in the near future!

September is filling up quickly. I booked my second trip this morning. I'll flying to Cleveland next week to tape the next season of Knitting Daily TV and the following week going to Charlotte to exhibit at the Southern Women's Show. It will be the actual, physical launch of selling Wrapture. I'M SO EXCITED!

xoxo, Kristin

That bracelet looks fun! I have never tried crocheting with wire, but I think I will give this a try. :)

I've been playing with different uses for post stitches lately. I've always loved crochet cables, but in August I used post stitches in a doily (entered it in the county fair this week - wish me luck) and on a hat that came out looking like it had a series of stars on it (also a fair entry). And I would really like to learn tunisian - just trying to find time to squeeze that in.

This season has been one of learning. I consider myself a crocheter even though I knit; I took a class at my LYS The Ball of Yarn and learned intarsia knitting. I used blue worsted weight yarn with a glittery strand to knit a Christmas stocking with a white tree knitted in the back and front of the stocking. I learned about bobbins; this was a new experience and I am pleased with my completed project. I will be learning to knit a mitered square baby blanket during September.

I'm learning some new-to-me Tunisian stitches, like the cross stitch, as I follow a pattern for a Tunisian laceweight shawl.

Tunisian is still on my list to learn.

This month the new technique I learned was actually an old one with a new name. I bought a copy of Mosaic Crochet with Lily Chin and have been practicing her technique for mosaic crochet which I have found in some of my stitch dictionaries listed as spike stitch. I have made several items including two cowls and am now working on a triangle shawl using this technique. It is really fun, easy, and looks really intricate but is not.

I learned how to do linked triple crochet. I'm doing this stitch at the beginning of a row to avoid the gap that occurs between the turning chain and the next stitch. It's really easy and looks better than the way I used to do it.

Vegas sounds like great fun. Thanks for sharing.

I've been working on adjusting garment shaping with different sized hooks (crochet) instead of dropping or adding stitches. Good results so far. :)

I would like to learn about adding beads to my knitting and crocheting. I would also like to work on knitted jewelry with beads.

It's been a busy summer for me, so I'd just like to have time to knit and crochet :-) When I'm ready to try something new, though, I'd like to learn Tunisian crochet...

I made the Sparkly Skinny Scarf from your Seamless Crochet book as a sample for our local yarn shop.
It was fast & fun.

I have cousins in Vegas. It's a fun place to be, even for non-gamblers like me.

I have been learning how to knit (I have been crocheting for years, but I didn't start knitting until a few months ago). I learned a few new techniques in August--k2tog and such. Fun stuff.

I learned how to three-needle bind-off, in a manner of speaking, when adding ivy leaves to the i-cord stem I was making.

I saw a shawl I would like to make that has a beaded edge, so I guess my next technique will be beaded edging.
